Sliding Down Mt. Rainier

Iiiit's...
 MOVIE TIME

Last week I posted about hiking up to Camp Muir on Mt. Rainier.  I have some videos that you can watch now, if you're interested.

To begin with, here's what it looks like up at Camp Muir.  You can see a tired hiker reaching the camp, some hiking parties further down the glacier, a couple of skiers, and a complete panorama of our lunch spot!  Click here!

Now let's look at glissading, the "sport" of sliding down the mountain on your butt.  Here's Cole on a really good glissade track.

If there are two people glissading on the same track, the person in back can run into the person and front to impart momentum or form a glissading cluster... click here if that interests you or if you are bored.

Finally, here's a video of a ski mountaineer skiing down the mountain.  The bumps he's going over are part of a terrain feature known as "suncupping" that often occurs on glaciers.  I like the word "suncupping" almost as much as I like the words "talus slope."
